Anke has managed to flee to a free country and urges him to join her as soon as possible. Victor starts dreaming of a different world, and despite his doubts makes the decision to flee in his turn. It will be for him the beginning of a journey filled with traps, in which any unusual action on his part can lead to disaster.

Events of the past tend to fade away; however, the June deportation of 1941 has remained to the memory of Estonian people forever as one of the cruellest crimes by Soviet authorities. At the night of June 14, 1941, more than ten thousand people were deported to Siberia, most of them being women and children. The film introduces those who stayed alive in SIberia and finally returned back home. Director Andres Sööt whose family also collapsed due to the June deportation dedicates his film to all those sent to Siberia. This is an everlasting responsibility - not to forget.

The journey will become an escape in a dream-like world where the unknown enemy is constantly keeping up with Thomas.

According to the director of the film, Veiko Õunpuu, "Autumn Ball" tells about seclusion, lack of contact and inability to reach other people. At the same time, there is humour and absurd in the film; it is possible that some people among the audience can have a really good laugh. When speaking about the genre of the film, it can be said that "Autumn Ball" is a pitch-black comedy about solitude, despair and hopelessness.
