Documentary directed by Peeter Tooming about the biggest environmental protest in 1988, a youth bike trip through the desolate areas in Viru county, Estonia.

The compendious reportage documentary was born during the Phosporite War (1987-1988) caused by the new phosporite mines to be founded in West-Viru county and West-Kabala based on the workforce from Russia. The Phosphorite War was a public protest movement in Estonian contemporary history against the Soviet regime and its hostile policies towards environment. The biggest event for environmental protection was the youth biking trip in "How are you doing, Viru county?".

The events of the film directed by Peeter Urbla take place in precapitalist Tallinn, among people who try to find their hearth and home.

This film is about one of the greatest social hotspots in Estonia during the Soviet times when apartments were given for free by the state, telling the story of a real estate agent and a homeless man. Mass immigration in 1944-1988 led to demographic conflict. Free apartments were mainly given to immigrants despite the fact that local people badly needed places of residence as well. They are not tourists, they live here, but they haven't got home.

Documentary about the blue-black-white summer in Pärnu, about the sewers and the E. coli bacteria in the sea water where swimming is forbidden.

Pärnu mud baths celebrated its 150-year anniversary in 1988. The documentary observes the consequences of the extensive development of health centers and industry during the post-war period in the resort town of Pärnu. That has been in acute opposition with the actual needs of the town. The water of Pärnu Bay is hopelessly contaminated, the social-economical development of the town has fallen behind for about ten years.

Estonian Film Database (EFDB)

The database is maintained by NGO Estonian Film Database. It was opened on 12.12.2012 and is meant for providing information about the whole Estonian film heritage from 1912. We plan fully complete it by 2025 but already now full and partial entries for about 20 000 films, 27 000 filmmakers, and more than 200 production companies could be retrieved in Estonian and partly in English. Translation of film descriptions and keywords into English is ongoing but due to the scarcity of resources quite a slow process. Read more detailed overview.
