Portrait documentary by Rein Raamat introduces the creative world of artist Jaan Elken, one of the most interesting lyrical abstractionist painter in Estonia, through his artist's confessions and the analysis of an art historian.

The main subject in Jaan Elken's (b. 1954, painter and professor of the painting department at the University of Tartu) work is modern urban environment; hyperrealistic motifs have been powerfully replaced by expressive abstract painting style. Elken's work belongs to several art collections as well as museum collections both in Estonia and abroad; it has been awarded with several prizes. His artwork is introduced through exhibitions held in 1997-1999, with the comments by art historian Harry Liivrand.

At his exhibition "31 gentlemen" (1998) the artist presented portraits he had painted in 1958-1997. The portraits are commented by the artist, art historians and several people who were portrayed.
