The Whooper Swan does not usually breed in Estonia. But in spring and autumn the coastal shallow waters echo with its polyphonic cries. The Whooper Swan stays here for weeks to gain strength for long migration. In spring it is a winter visitor to the North, in autumn to the shores of the Mediterranean. Still there is one place in Estonia where the Whooper Swan breeds. The place is called Jäneda and local people have childhood recollections of the swans.
