A Prayer (2022)

Elis Rumma's short film is about escaping from the present and the past.

Jakop (Elar Vaher) spends time in his father's (Tõnu Oja) old fishing shed and tries to find some kind of peace or reconciliation with his father's death. His peaceful routine is disturbed by a local villager who brings a strange woman (Marika Otsa) who only speaks Russian to Jakop. The villager explains that the woman thinks he is by the Gulf of Finland. However, both Jakop and the villager know very well that it is Lake Peipsi. The villager offers Jakop a rather hefty sum to transfer his wife, but Jakop refuses. The next morning, however, the villager lets go and leaves Jakop alone with the speechless woman. Jakop tries and tries to explain to her that it is Lake Peipsi and he cannot drive her anywhere but the Soviet Union, but it seems that she does not want to understand or accept this reality.
