Birds of Paradise (2022)

A restless soul roams in a harmonious paradise.

Gray. Fog. We are moving through a haze. Contours of people are seen in the thick fog. It almost looks like alien world. We arrive to Indrek, who is anxious to catch some fish. He is talking to the fish through an ice hole. We hear him answer the phone and give directions to someone. More fishermen are being seen moving around in the fog. Finally, his friends find him and gift him a present for his birthday.
Midday. A swarm of fishermen are on the ice. There is a gentle breeze. We see Indrek taking a piss on the bay. He answers his phone later, disrupting the atmosphere. He leaves the bay with no fish.
Heavy storm. The wind has blown the ice into pieces. Inside of a workshop, we see Indrek weaving nets. He is clearly a professional. The work seems endless.
We are moving with a motorized vehicle on banks of broken ice. We arrive to a sunny day with Indrek and his friend discussing about axes. A third fisherman arrives. There seems to be an endless blabber on the bay. Seagulls. Screaming seagulls, all over the place. Anxious Indrek is still catching on the fish. Indrek is alone in the golden light. His restlessness peaks here. He finally catches a fish, throwing it immediately away. The day ends with mysic scenes from the bay. We hear unearthly sounds, the ice is alive.
Next day, the birds from the south arrive. We see the bay almost melted. Indrek is still on the bay. There is a kind of calmness in his face. The spring has arrived.
