Reading between the lines (2016)

Original title (in Estonian): "Ridade vahelt lugedes"

Students film | Drama Duration 16:11

Plot summary

Adaptation of original letters by Nobel laureate Ivan Bunin and estonian poetess Maria Karamzina.

Anna works as an actress in a small town theatre. She is quite attractive and successful both at work and in her private life, but suffers from midlife crisis.
Theatre director George casts Anna to a new play, which is based on the letters written between world-known Russian writer Ivan Bunin and the Russian poetess from Estonia Maria Karamsina.
To perform the main male role, a famous actor Alexander arrives to the provincial town, an old friend of George’s. Anna adores Alexander, but is also afraid to share the stage with him. From the very first day Anna and Alexander form a perfect actors' duet, and rehearsal after rehearsal they bring life to the sensitive story of friendship between Ivan Bunin and Maria Karamsina. Behind the stage Anna and Alexander become good friends and maybe more.
The season is ending. Alexander must leave. Anna identifies herself with Maria Karamsina more and more, who like her, had a chance to meet Ivan Bunin personally and felt a great sympathy for him. Like Maria, Anna also has to part from the man and thus the story repeats itself in full.
