Six-year-old Leelo’s mother is deported to a Siberian prison camp during Stalinist repressions. The little girl tries to be as good as she can in the belief that this will bring her mother back home.

It is 1950 in the Soviet Estonia and the Stalinist terror machine works at full steam – 6-year-old Leelo’s school principal mother is arrested before her very eyes. “If you’re a good kid, I’ll be back soon,” are her mother’s last words as she is taken away at gunpoint. So Leelo is on her very best behaviour, but yet her mother does not return. A fear creeps into the child’s soul that it is her fault her mother was taken. The summer camp of Estonian children in Stockholm near Lake Krön, Krönbaden in the summer of 1948.

There are 84 children aged 10 to 12 spending time in the summer camp for children of expatriate Estonians. Swedish flags are waving in the village. The main building of the camp is either a manor house or a villa. A boy is playing a trumpet as a morning wake-up call. The children are leaving the buildings and running to the lake. They are making morning exercises with their female and male coaches and washing in the lake. The girls are making their beds and fixing their hair. Estonian Film Database (EFDB)

The database is maintained by NGO Estonian Film Database. It was opened on 12.12.2012 and is meant for providing information about the whole Estonian film heritage from 1912. We plan fully complete it by 2025 but already now full and partial entries for about 20 000 films, 27 000 filmmakers, and more than 200 production companies could be retrieved in Estonian and partly in English. Translation of film descriptions and keywords into English is ongoing but due to the scarcity of resources quite a slow process. Read more detailed overview.
