The film introduces more closely the life and professional work of Russian poet Igor Severyanin while living in Estonia. Literary historian Sergei Issakov, translator David Samoilov, poet and actor Juhan Viiding, semiotician and literary historian Juri Lotman share their thoughts about Estonian and Russian literature. Jüri Krjukov recites Severyanin's poetry in Russian. He also reads the voiceover of the film in Estonian.

The documentary is divided into three parts: the first part has been dedicated to ancient bearers of memory such as Karelian rock paintings, poetry of Kalevala, the Khanti bear funeral ceremony. Taking a tour in the past has been interwoven with mythical ancient history, yet drawing parallels with today's society. In the second part Lennart Meri tells about Finnish folklore collector Elias Lönnrot's trip to Estonia and his meetings with Estonian intellectuals in 1844.
