Documentary about the herring fishery by the trawler "Ocean" of the Soviet Estonian fishery industry in the North Sea. The film gives an overview about the whole fishing process - including mapping the herring school and unloading the catch to the freezer vessel.

The drama directed by Kaljo Kiisk depicts the way people act and think in a crisis situation. The screenplay by Juhan Smuul includes both elements of a disaster film as well as a witty dialogue.

Very different people meet on a ferry from Virtsu to Kuivastu on a June day: a hairdresser with her educated husband; her handicapped brother with his sister's neglected child; four female students of linguistics and four young specialists; a group of islanders returning home; and two stowaways - a young couple in love. The steersman of the ferry is having a hangover and breaks the ferry regulation while letting two fuel vehicles on board. It turns out during the trip that there is a truck on board where something has caught the flame.

The journey of ferry "Suurupi" in the Great Strait between Virtsu and Kuivastu in winter.

Ferryboats "Suurupi" and "Sõprus" operate between Kuivastu and Virtsu. Whereas people can cross the water by plane or even on foot walking on ice then for trucks the ferryboat is the only possibility in order to cross the frozen trait. Despite the short distance of only 7 kilometres the ferry ride can sometimes take even 10 to 12 hours in harsh weather conditions. Filmmakers observe the journey of the ferryboat "Suurupi" across the trait.

Estonian Film Database (EFDB)

The database is maintained by NGO Estonian Film Database. It was opened on 12.12.2012 and is meant for providing information about the whole Estonian film heritage from 1912. We plan fully complete it by 2025 but already now full and partial entries for about 20 000 films, 27 000 filmmakers, and more than 200 production companies could be retrieved in Estonian and partly in English. Translation of film descriptions and keywords into English is ongoing but due to the scarcity of resources quite a slow process. Read more detailed overview.
