Documentary feature about one of the most influential Estonian surrealists, Ülo Sooster.

After seven years in a Soviet labor camp in Karaganda, the Estonian artist Ülo Sooster (1924‒1970) didn’t return to his homeland but settled in Moscow and became the most influential trend-setter for a whole generation of Soviet non-conformist artists. In 1962 he exhibited his work Eye in the Egg at the anniversary art exhibition "30 Years of the Moscow Artists' Union" at Moscow Manege that later was a turning point in the acceptance of modern art. It resulted in Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev’s angry rant against "filth, decadence and sexual deviations" who threatened to send the artists to Siberia. Sooster replied with bitter humor ...

Estonian Film Database (EFDB)

The database is maintained by NGO Estonian Film Database. It was opened on 12.12.2012 and is meant for providing information about the whole Estonian film heritage from 1912. We plan fully complete it by 2025 but already now full and partial entries for about 20 000 films, 27 000 filmmakers, and more than 200 production companies could be retrieved in Estonian and partly in English. Translation of film descriptions and keywords into English is ongoing but due to the scarcity of resources quite a slow process. Read more detailed overview.
