Historical retrospective to the escape of Estonians and Estonian Swedes from the Soviet Red Army to Sweden and Germany in 1943-1944. The documentary begins and ends with the episodes of crackling logfires and rippling waves in summer 1990 by the Estonian coasts where 46 years ago the boats filled with refugees left Estonia across the stormy Baltic Sea. Photographs, rare film footage and personal recollections of refugees express their journey and the further destiny of the refugees during the first post-war years. The film is an emotional mosaic about the great saga of escaping the war.
