In this film, we look at the Setos – a European ethnic group who are wedged between two different cultures – the Orthodox East and the Catholic-Lutheran West. Documentary gives an overview of the various areas polluted by the Soviet army during 50 years in different places in Estonia.

Foreign troops that occupied Estonia considered preserving nature and healthy living environment to be rather unimportant. Soviet generals often planned environmentally dangerous military bases in beautiful places in nature, near water catchment areas and bodies of water. Soviet army had about 1565 military objects in Estonia, including 5 aerodromes, more than 50 rocket bases, test sites etc. Since Estonia regained its independence, our environmental protectors have suffered uncertainty whether all sources of pollution and the remains of hazardous substances have been found and neutralised.

Livonians are among the smallest Finno-Ugric nations still existing today. They are the closest kindred people to Estonians and Livonian language is the closest one to Estonian language. Currently, there are only a few dozens of speakers of Livonian language left and even for them Livonian is not their native tongue. However, there are about 200 people who consider themselves as Livonians; most of them live in Riga, Ventspils and Kūolka, Latvia.
