In 2016 several fires destroyed several buildings on the island of Piirissaare, among the also the Old Believers prayer house. Praskovja, the 84-year- old choir singer and important member of the community, lost her childhood´s house in one the fires and she is trying to get on her feet down again and continue living.

From May to September 2016, several fires took place on the island of Piirissaare, destroying many houses and the most important building of the community: the Old Believers' prayer house. These events caused insecurity and disagreement among the members within the community. 84-year-old Praskovja is the key figure of the community and used to sing in the prayer house´s choir. Semyon Shkolnikov (b. 1918), cameraman of film chronicles and documentaries, started his career in the field of filmmaking as a war front cameraman. In 1948 he started to work for Tallinn Kinostuudio (later known as Tallinnfilm), Estonia. He was a member of crew working with 377 cinema newsreels "Soviet Estonia"; as a director he has completed 60 documentaries.
