A blacksmith battling a severe disease begins the last great job of his life - the creation of a sword made of Damascus steel.

The film's main character is Taimo Kõrvermaa, a blacksmith nicknamed Sepa Tom (Tom Blacksmith), who is also called Damascus as he is one of few craftsmen in Estonia who has the skills for forging a sword made of Damascus steel. The foundation of the film is the blacksmith creating a sword, ordered by the Estonian Neopagans, from beginning to end. In parallel, we will explore the life of the smith, who grew from a thieving orphanage child into a craftsman.

Archaeologist Jaak Mäll decides to reconstruct a firearm dating back to 14th century. He uses medieval skills and technology in doing that.

The fragments of the oldest firearm known from Estonia were found during the archaeological excavations of the Otepää castle in 1955 but identified as such only in the late 1980s. In this film the "handgonne" from Otepää is brought back to life by archaeologist Jaak Mäll - re-fabricated using mediaeval technologies and trial-shot with gunpowder made according the recipes from the early 15th century.

As the chief inspector of Estonian defence army, Laigna positions himself between the attitudes of a soldier, a priest, a philosopher, a wizard, a king and an artisan while defining the world and himself.

Documentary commissioned by the State Television and Radio Committee of USSR about Estonian history, present day and nature conservation. Estonian-mindedness is expressed through the selection of topic, visual language as well as the soundtrack. Among the themes there are the national identity of Estonians, fellowship, local nature and culture. The message is slightly circumspect yet emphasizing Estonian mentality and nationality throughout the film.
