Shortly before Estonia regained its independence, a painting studio came into being, a studio that was guided by principles of painting that dated back to the First Republic. Heldur Viires, the leader and teacher of the school, has been passing on his knowledge of colour and light for thirty meaningful years.

An authentic Pallasian (disciple of Pallas Higher Art School), Heldur Viires is not just admired but also loved and cared for by his students. A true master who continued sharing his painterly advice even at the age of 89, when he still visited the studio every afternoon to have a look at the nudes painted that morning.
