Semyon Shkolnikov (b. 1918), cameraman of film chronicles and documentaries, started his career in the field of filmmaking as a war front cameraman. In 1948 he started to work for Tallinn Kinostuudio (later known as Tallinnfilm), Estonia. He was a member of crew working with 377 cinema newsreels "Soviet Estonia"; as a director he has completed 60 documentaries. Semjon Školnikovi meenutuste vahele on pikitud rohkelt arhiivikaadreid, mis annavad pildi operaatorist endast kui ka nõukogude ajastust, mida ta filmis.

Photographs, rare film footage and personal recollections of refugees express their journey and the further destiny of the refugees during the first post-war years. The film is an emotional mosaic about the great saga of escaping the war.
