Airika is a self-confident young woman who sees her future as a single mom and decides to stay out of long-term relationships with men.

More than half Estonian marriages and partnerships end with separation. Fatherless girls raised by their mothers learn that one cannot count on men - you have to survive on your own. Protagonist Airika comes from the family of single mothers - her great-grandmother, grandmother and mother have been raising their children on their own. Retired Esja Šur, a Russian citizen living in Sillamäe, Estonia spends her elderly days while organizing demonstrations, meetings and pickets.

Journalists write about her, politicians tremble because of her, Estonians curse her and the Security Police observes her - the energetic old woman Esja Šur organizes demonstrations, writes memorandums and claims. Even if the efficiency of all her activities is close to zero, the old lady won't give up. Esja enjoys the beauty of the game; her sense of humour becomes prominent in situations where her opponents feel confused. All this is accompanied by a court action that has gradually grown into a big case.
