The drama directed by Leida Laius is based on the novel "The Master of Kõrboja" by Anton Hansen Tammsaare, telling the multilayered story about a farm in need of a master and about hopeless love.

Anna, the daughter of an elderly owner of Kõrboja farm, is told by her father that if she won't move in their home farm then it will be sold to strangers. But the farm needs also a master, and Anna has been living in town for years. She comes back home and meets again Villu, her friend from childhood. Villu is still as temperamental as he used to be and Anna has always been a stubborn one. Now they have grown up. The more fellow villagers find the couple a strange one, the more they are attracted to each other.

The film was shot in 1977 on locations in northern Finland, Sámi, Vepsia, Votia, Mordovia, Khantia-Mansia, Hungary, the Taymyr Peninsula, Setomaa region in Estonia and in Saaremaa and Muhu islands, Estonia. Some footage was also filmed in Nenetsia in 1970.

The second film of the trilogy (based on the novels "Spring", "Summer" and "Autumn" by Oskar Luts) directed by Arvo Kruusement follows the life of the characters known from "Spring" with a humorous undertone.

Joosep Toots is always playing a practical joke on someone and Jorh Adniel Kiir keeps failing in everything he does. Both of them try to win Teele's heart; however, the moody young woman seems to be extremely determined. The beloved actors and actresses from "Kevade", the first part of the film trilogy, appear again in the roles while having grown up in the meantime. "Summer" depicts the life of the early 20th century in a humorous way while the lyrical undertone is provided by beautiful Estonian landscapes and the soundtrack familiar from "Spring".
