Mare Vint

Mare Vint, an acknowledged graphic and drawing artist, opens up the background of her sensitive artwork related to her personal exhibition "Selected views".

Mare Vint (b. 1942) discovered her artist style, a highly refined way of drawing, already in the year of 1970. Vint has depicted nature and parks with the aesthetic quality and slightly metaphysical moods. The artist regularly exhibits her litographs, serigraphs, works made with indian ink and coloured pencils both in Estonia and abroad. Her works belong to the collections of several art museums all over the world. The documentary depicts Mare Vint before and after the opening of her personal exhibition "Selected views" (2004) when the artist is working with her drawings and commenting on her creative process.

Portrait documentary by Rein Raamat introduces the creative world of artist Jaan Elken, one of the most interesting lyrical abstractionist painter in Estonia, through his artist's confessions and the analysis of an art historian.

The main subject in Jaan Elken's (b. 1954, painter and professor of the painting department at the University of Tartu) work is modern urban environment; hyperrealistic motifs have been powerfully replaced by expressive abstract painting style. Elken's work belongs to several art collections as well as museum collections both in Estonia and abroad; it has been awarded with several prizes. His artwork is introduced through exhibitions held in 1997-1999, with the comments by art historian Harry Liivrand.

The documentary tells about the birth of a painting by Kaido Ole who interprets his artwork with an allegorical fairytale.

The documentary follows the birth of painter Kaido Ole's (b. 1963) new work. Filmmakers show discourse and commentaries on Ole's work and working process by the artist himself and painter Jaan Elken. Kaido Ole has studied design and painting at the Estonian Academy of Arts. He has held numerous personal and group exhibitions both in Estonia and abroad, including representation of Estonia at the Venice biennale with Marko Mäetamm in 2003. In 1998, Ole was awarded Kristjan Raud annual art prize; he has also obtained the annual award of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia twice.
