Ulyana Osovska

Biography

  • Director, social activist and traveler Ulyana Osovska was born in Ukraine. She graduated from Kyiv National Economic University. Ulyana Osovska was an active participant of the Ukraine's revolution of 2014 which sparked her interest in documenting the world through a camera. She debuted as a director in 2015 with the short documentary film "Election Agent", which become a part of annual almanach “Ukrainian voices 2”. In the same year she has co-funded the NGO Docutoloka, which brings together documentary artists and social activists. Next years Docutoloka team have organise several documentary workshops and lectures for documentarists. One of them “Lab Docutoloka” was implemented under support of Polish governmental grant and was presented on the biggest ukrainian documentary film festival DOCUDAYS UA. In summer 2015 and 2016 Docutoloka’s documentary shorts program and photo exhibitions participated in “Black Sea Arts Festival” in Bucharest, Romania. Also short program dedicated to Ukrainian revolution and war was presented on ukrainian-syrian meeting in 2015 in Istanbul. Documentaries of Ulyana Osovska was shown on plenty festivals in Ukraine between each was “Gogol Fest”, “ARTGNOSIS”, “Chornobyl Renessainse” and others. Her full-length documentary debut "Almost 10,000 Voters" held a World Premiere at the 33rd Warsaw Film Festival. Nowadays Ulyana works on such topics as civic activism, human rights and cultural exchange without borders.
