Kaspars Goba

Born in 1975, in Cesis, Latvia. Documentary film director, photographer and journalist. With the documentary photo series Seda. People of the Marsh and homo@lv Kaspars has taken pa rt in contemporary art exhibitions in Austria, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, United Kingdom. In 2006, he publ ished the photo album Icelanders. Between Glaciers and Lava, which received an award from the Latvian Book Publishers’ Association as The Best Art Album of 2006.

Since 1996 Kaspars also works as a director, scriptwriter and cinematographer, and he has participated in the production of more than 20 documentaries focusing on social and environmental issues. His documentary Seda. People of the Marsh (2004) was co-produced with filmtank hamburg GmbH for ARTE/NDR; in Latvia this film received a prize at the National Film Festival Lielais Kristaps as The Best Document of the Century. His documentary homo@lv (2010) was the first documentary from Latvia screened at the Berlin International Film Festival.

In 2012, after 10 years spent exclusively in documentary filmmaking, Kaspars returned to photography and started working on the series Islands of Riga, which resulted in a photo exhibition and photo album published at the end of 2014. The photo album Islands of Riga received an award from the Latvian Book Publishers’ Association as The Best Photo Album of 2014.
