Sasha:
After the collapse of the Soviet Union Sasha’s parents lost their jobs and were thrown out of the flat. The family found housing in an abandoned house. Soon after that Sasha’s father was killed. After the 5th class Sasha didn’t return to the school. Right now he moves from a house that will be knocked down into another similar one. He has no documents and no secure income. He will celebrate his birthday in a motor-transport depot, where he worked illegally. He was paid in food and drinks. The money to celebrate the birthday he earned thanks to this film.
Kristo:
Kristo and his parents live in a little house in a suburb of Tallinn. After Estonia regained its independence, the family tried to start up a farm in South Estonia. The attempt failed. Kristo’s mother is a team leader in a firm producing leather bags Kristo’s father paints cars. Kristo likes school. He loves fast cars, pretty girls, and sports. Kristo’s parents organize and
finance his birthday party. The party will take place in a cheap motel on the outskirts of Tallinn.
Mikk:
Mikk lives in a tower-block. After Estonia regained its independence, Mikk’s parents prospered. They earn well. Mikk’s father manages a successful international company. His mother runs one of the biggest pubs in Tallinn. His parents are divorced. Mikk’s stepfather and mother will soon build a house. Mikk has a girlfriend. He hopes to live with her happily ever after. Mikk loves eating and doing nothing. His grades are not good. He can’t pull himself together. Mikk’s mother organizes and finances his birthday party. The party will take place in the pub run by Mikk’s mother.
