Evidence (2009)

Set during the year 2006, just as in the early nineties Latvia, it is a story of a young man whose past has come to change his future. After the father of the four year old boy Ģirts is murdered on a nightly forest road, the boy gets adopted by his grandmother who brings him to live at her country house in Cēsis. 
All seems well in the young boys life. He grows up in the care of his grandmother and soon begins to be the man of the house by taking over all the important works at the country house.
One day Ģirts grandmother passes away leaving the country house all to him. After his grandmothers death Ģirts stumbles upon a diary of hers in which she depicts the the true motives and circumstances behind the death of his father. 
Now at the age of 21, Ģirts discovers that his grandmother has had knowledge about the murderer of her son. He finds out that the assumed murderer had been his fathers colleague from work Sergejs Gruščikovs. Sergejs had offered him an opportunity to earn money by simply making the chief of the fishing factory sign a corrupt deal with a foreign company for a chain of very low price export that would lead the factory into bankruptcy. His father had not signed to the deal and had threatened to reveal it to the management. He had chosen to follow his heart. 
After having received such mind thrilling information Ģirts sets off in search for Sergejs to bring him to justice and revenge his fathers death. 
While in search for the man who had murdered his father, Ģirts meats an elderly lady who had known Sergejs for a brief moment when she had bought his old flat. Ģirts receives an old photo of Sergejs with the help of which he finds him by accident and is forced to rethink his plan for justice.
Always taught by his grandmothers to be a warm-hearted boy with kind manners and respectful behavior Ģirts decides to leave to God what is his and to men what is theirs. He reports Sergejs to the police and delivers them all the evidence he had obtained from his grandmother. 
At first the police hesitates to reopen the case of his fathers murder, but shortly afterwards they make a different decision and begin to unravel it in secret.
