Prelude to Emptiness (2022)

The film is about a dysfunctional couple Rain and Deelia whose life goals and choices are moving towards different directions.

Deelia and Rain are a couple who have recently found out that they are expecting a baby. This has been Rain’s biggest dream for a while but Deelia feels pressured and is not so sure if her life is going to the right direction. It’s about to be Deelia’s 30th birthday and the celebrations take place in Deelia’s friend’s art studio.. When Rain eagerly announces about the pregnancy then instead of endorsement, he is despised and flooded with sarcastic comments from Deelia’s friends who consider themselves as free-spirited intellectuals. Rain’s ultimate present for Deelia’s birthday is a house in the suburbs. Rain leaves the art studio in order to make some final touches in setting up the surprise.
When it’s time to head back to the party in order to be there by midnight for Deelia’s birthday, Rain’s car engine doesn’t start. After several attempts to call Deelia and find solutions, he is forced to spend the night alone in the empty suburban house. Meanwhile, in the company of her good old friends, reuniting with her lover Adrian, Deelia escapes from reality and gradually forgets about Rain. The morning after, people finally realize that Rain never came back for midnight.
They start putting the puzzle together and one of the friends mentions what kind of surprise is waiting for Deelia. Adrian drives Deelia to the newly bought house. The suburban streets that are slowly passing by the car window make her feel even more oppressed. She makes up her mind and wants to quickly get away from there to postpone facing her problems but Rain notices her and she has to deal with the uncomfortable situation.
