The Mystery of Reiki (2014)

Marta is a fragile twenty-year old from Riga. Having just finished high school, she is still living with her mother – a firm believer in everything supernatural, who is sure that she has inherited powers.  Marta, on quite the contrary, is a very earthly person and has never participated in her mother's practices, finding them rather insane.

In respect for her mother's beliefs that in order for their whole family not to become cursed the daughter also has to find the connection to the supernatural powers, Marta agrees to go to Tallinn to attend a Reiki healing course.

This is where our story begins; it is a dark and chilly autumn evening in Tallinn. Marta has just arrived in Estonia and is trying to find her way to the place where she has arranged to stay overnight. She asks for the directions from people in the streets, but somehow nobody knows the place that she is looking for.

When she finally finds the right building, some surprises are waiting for her already. First of all it's the host: he is a complete weirdo. He is living alone in the apartment with a rat and a tarantula spider (claiming that they are there to protect him... for some reason) and god-knows-what on his mind. Despite feeling instant precaution and even repulsion towards the man and his darling pets, she still manages to act with her best manners. Marta excuses herself and goes to sleep early, since she has to wake up early for the classes.

Late in the night the spider has somehow gotten out from its cage and is now loosely walking around the apartment. Marta is unaware, sleeping in her bed.
