Coincidence (2009)

Students film | Drama Duration 13:14

Plot summary

The film tells a story of two young people - a girl of 18 y.o. who’s graduating from school, and a guy of around 24 y.o., a musician who’s traveling around. They meet in the virtual world of the Internet, they get to know each other virtually, and amazed how close they seem - their tastes, hobbies, interests, likes and dislikes - they agreed to meet once the guy comes to Tallinn.

So, the guy is in Tallinn, staying in a youth hostel downtown, and that is where the film really begins.

Early morning in the hostel. Some Norwegian guy is entering the kitchen, desperate for a cup of morning coffee, and sees our character, already up and shining, enthusiastically typing something on his laptop. There we hear the pre-story and find out that finally they will meet today - him and the wonderful girl. They agreed to meet in the park in the heart of Tallinn. The girl comes, but our character never makes it to the park. They agree to meet another time, and it doesn’t work out for the second time! Why? Well, it’s just a coincidence. He is as excited to meet her as she is, but something always stays on their way. And the third time, he gets locked up in the studio, where he was just to help, for a few hours. He finally makes it to the meeting place - but the girl is long gone of course.

What is it that keeps them apart? Their fate? How far will it go and take them? What if they meet? Will something beautiful evolve from that? Or is fate doing it on purpose, preventing something more dreadful to happen? Was he really trapped in those sometimes ridiculous situations or was he just making excuses?

It is easier to “talk” in the cyber space, and one doesn’t have to explain what is MySpace, FaceBook, msn and Skype to nowadays youngsters. They all make the world a smaller place in some sense, but at the same time - more frightening. Where is the line between reality and virtual reality? How much trust can one put into that virtual world and virtual people? What is real out there?
