Nikolai Kormašov (1929 – 2012) was the greatest expert on old Russian art in Estonia. His ethical and aesthetical system of values inspired by the icon painting became an important basis for Estonian painters in 1960s-1970s. Kormašov's expressive and monumental creative practice was associated to the so-called "harsh style of the 1960s, for instance "The Fishermen" (1963), "Iron Concrete" (1965), "Young Constructors" (1967) etc.
