Nikolai Kormashov and Russian Icon (2004)

Nikolai Kormashov makes preparations for restoring the icon of the original altar of St Nicolas Church - an activity that the artist finds indispensable in his life. He describes the icon restoring process; together with his younger son Orest they begin the complicated journey of restoring another icon. Kormashov is by profession a carpenter and a tinsmith; however, he is the founder of the restoration school in Estonia as well as a great artist. He modestly considers painting only as a hobby. Kormashov regards icons and restoration process with respect and awe; he believes that an artist is responsible for doing good things. Kindness is harmony.
