Documentary about Estonian Soviet folk writer Juhan Smuul (1922-1971) introduces mainly his literary work but also the man himself as a writer and a member of society. The large part of the film has been dedicated to Juhan Smuul's birth place, Muhu island, Estonia. The local people and way of life have given Juhan Smuul a special sense about his place and responsibilities in society.
