Experts Of Love (2024)

Kay and Beate, Germans in their 50s based in Berlin have opened their relationship to polyamory after 30 years of Christian marriage and two grown-up children. Living in the centre of sexual liberty they at least seem to know how poly should work – parties in Berlin’s swingers' clubs, visits to a poly therapist and several affairs happening all over Europe.
In Estonia it's a different story altogether. Due to the Soviet background it's much harder to break the stereotype while living in the backwoods of Europe. Meeting the sensual Berliner Kay becomes a relief for Estonian housewife Marianne but a never-ending burden for her husband who is hospitalized for an anxiety disorder. Riita and Taavi, a couple in their late 30s who are trying out polyamory go very enthusiastically by the book. They start off with a proper contract of dos and don'ts at the therapist.
In documentary we observe the personal stories of several people living in polyamory. It's a challenging choice that will change a person. There are many aspects of a relationship that need to be reevaluated and looked at from a wider perspective. Coping with the lack of self-esteem and fighting with one's own jealousy is just the tip of the iceberg.
