The Plague (2017)

Original title: Katk

Documentary Duration 28:24

Sünopsis

Estonia is currently at the forefront in Europe when it comes to drug-related deaths. And to the spread of HIV. There’s a Skype development center in Tallinn. Our Olympic team is made up of successful, healthy, athletic, beautiful and clean Estonian people. We have a lot to be proud of and a lot of pretty and happy stories to tell. But we also have needle exchange programs. It’s easy to exchange your needles but just try to exchange your whole life! Life changers are those who are dedicated to helping drug addicts. They exchange their used syringes for new ones. The documentary backbone of this film is a day in the life of Indrek Kalikov who works at the needle exchange. He’s a field agent. He goes behind corners, to bunkers and to places where people live. He exchanges syringes, counsels and hands out condoms. The side character is former addict Roma whose story we hear from a former addict and current needle exchange worker Grete. She’s a smart, young woman who has been clean for /just/ a year and a half /already/. And then, we have the ministers – Jevgeni and Andres – who are worried. They say that they care. And why shouldn’t they? But the plague has been let loose and the only thing we can do is try to learn our lesson from it and, hopefully, notice if it comes too close.
