The Bank (2018)

Original title: Pank

TV Serial | Drama Duration 10 x 57:00

Toomas Pisuke works at the local gas station. When one day a random conversation with a customer leads to an exciting job interview at Nordbank, Toomas suddenly finds himself catapulted into a new world on the trading floor, at the sharp end of big deals and complex transactions. He soon rises through the ranks, up to the board of Nordbank. Whilst his career booms, his personal life falls apart. Ülle Tamm is the Bank’s CFO. An original founder of the Bank, she is the backbone of the corporation, holding a male dominated team together. Under the surface, her life is not so perfect. The Bank becomes a safe port for both Toomas and Ülle. Blinded by its unprecedented success, they fail to see the mass destruction the Bank is leaving in its wake. In 1990s Tallinn, when the Estonian government was keen to stifle the rise of corporates, a hostile takeover by a Swedish rival bank was positively encouraged. Success comes at a price. When you are winning, you don’t see what you lose. The series is based on a true story documenting the rise of one of the most successful banks in the Nordics. Although fictitious, the story is based on real characters and events. It tells a unique story at a significant point in history, following the collapse of the Soviet empire. Everything was gone. Generation zero. Everything had to be rebuilt. From scratch. Politics, Companies, People, Life.
