New Rise, Old Ebb (2018)

From May to September 2016, several fires took place on the island of Piirissaare, destroying many houses and the most important building of the community: the Old Believers' prayer house. These events caused insecurity and disagreement among the members within the community.
84-year-old Praskovja is the key figure of the community and used to sing in the prayer house´s choir. Her childhood house burnt down in one of the fires, and now she has been forced to move to her old summer cottage and strives to rise again on her feet. The documentary shows through Praskovja's eyes how the community of the Old Believers of Piirissaare is dealing with this downtrend.
