The chain of events called the Singing Revolution culminated with Estonian Song '88 that took place on September 11, 1988. Almost quarter of a million people participated in the event where people publicly demanded restoration of Estonian independence. The great event was organized by the Popular Front of Estonia, Estonian Abstinence Society, Estonian Radio and Kodamu where the statesmen and heads of various movements held speeches, actors read poetry, music groups and choirs performed patriotic songs, all this being accompanied by the audience's sympathy and affection.
