Sünopsis

Expatriate Lithuanians in Canada express solidarity towards the fight for freedom in their homeland Lithuania with the mass that takes place in the Church of Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Toronto. People are gathering in the church, holding lit candles, national flags are brought in, Lithuanian national anthem and other Lithuanian songs are being sung with the accompaniment of the church organ. There is a solemn atmosphere in the church, some people have tears in their eyes. The priest of the Catholic Church is talking, then everyone prays. Richard Johnson, the representative of Lithuanian community in Canada, gives an interview in English and tells about the events in Vilnius. On January 11, 1990 during the visit of Mikhail Gorbachev, the President of the Soviet Union, hundreds of thousands of Lithuanians are coming to the mass meeting in Vilnius in order to demand national independence for their country. Expatriate Lithuanians in Canada express their steadfast support towards the fight for independence in Lithuania.
