Interview with a Latvian Canadian mother whose daughter is in Riga during the barricades

Latvian mother contacts her daughter, who has taken a trip to Latvia, on the phone. The daughter happens to get into the middle of the tragic events in central Riga where the Soviet OMON commando started to shoot the unarmed protesters on barricades on January 20, 1991. Among the protesters was also her daughter. Naturally, mother's worry for her daughter's safety was extremely big, fortunately she made it. Similarly to the majority of expatriate Latvians in Canada, mother is passionately supporting the restoration of independence of the Republic of Latvia. Photographs of the mother and daughter.
