Sünopsis

Expatriate Latvians in Canada are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Republic of Latvia with the special event in Toronto. Also, restoration of independence in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia is being celebrated with the event. The gathering is opened by a Lutheran church minister, speeches in Latvian and Lithuanian are followed (simultaneous sound). The audience is sitting behind the tables; after the toasts follows clinking of champagne glasses. The speeches also address the theme of the fight for independence in the Baltic states. It is emphasized that Canada has never acknowledged annexing of the Baltic states by the Soviet Union. Representatives of the Government of Canada also hold speeches. Finally the national anthems of Latvia and Canada are being sung.
