Filmmaker Andres Sööt portrays poet Hando Runnel, his essential nature, mentality, people around him and the Estonian great intellectuals who are close to the poet.

The documentary follows the moments and hikes of Hando Runnel in Estonia, in the summer of 2009. The places are more or less connected to local history or cultural history, starting from the birth place of Villem Reiman in Kolga-Jaani ending with the cafe of the University of Tartu. When leaving for his explorations, Runnel takes along (either physically or mentally) people who are influential for him - Uku Masing, Hendrik Adamson, Jüri Matjus, Hannes Varblane, Vello Salum, Peeter Olesk and others. Documentary gives a short overview about the history of the Estonian Students' Society and the emigration era that followed the great escape from Estonia in 1944. The film focuses on the restoration of the society at the end of 1980s and its role in today's Estonia. Alumni and active members of the society talk about ESS; also, outside experts add their commentaries.
