Kalju Komissarov (08.03.1946-06.03.2017) was one of the greatest and most influential theatre and film director and theatrical pedagogue in Estonia. To this day most of the big names who work in Estonian theatre stages have been his students. He was in charge of Estonian Youth Theatre 1974 - 1986, Ugala Theater 1989 - 1991 and 1986 - 1995 Drama School of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Till his death in 2017 he was the professor of University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy. You can see his students remembering him and his last interviews in documentary “Koma”.

The main principle of Johannes Käis (1885–1950) is that "instead of teaching children that they must know facts, they should learn how to search for knowledge and how to find it, and to grow them intellectually independent people". Käis's works were forbidden to the mid-1960s during the Soviet era and he was accused for propagating bourgeois-nationalist views. The documentary that has been commissioned by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Estonia gives an overview about Johannes Käis's life; his students and relatives share their memories and recollections; educational historians appreciate Käis's valuable life's work.

Estonian Film Database (EFDB)

The database is maintained by NGO Estonian Film Database. It was opened on 12.12.2012 and is meant for providing information about the whole Estonian film heritage from 1912. We plan fully complete it by 2025 but already now full and partial entries for about 20 000 films, 27 000 filmmakers, and more than 200 production companies could be retrieved in Estonian and partly in English. Translation of film descriptions and keywords into English is ongoing but due to the scarcity of resources quite a slow process. Read more detailed overview.
