The documentary focuses on the life and creative path of Mati Hint, a linguist, essayist, and lecturer who played an important role in politics during the restoration of Estonian independence.

In the revolutionary nineties, it was extremely important that the Estonian language became the state language, and for this a language law had to be adopted. Mati Hint was the ideologue of the Language Act, and thanks to his courage, attempts to change it at the last moment failed. That's how his rebellion benefited the Estonian state. The film investigates what was the role of fertile landscapes and harsh history of South Estonia in the formation of his uncompromising nature and rebel mentality

Three-act documentary essay directed by Lennart Meri about memory and the historical cultural connections between the Finno-Ugric peoples.

The documentary is divided into three parts: the first part has been dedicated to ancient bearers of memory such as Karelian rock paintings, poetry of Kalevala, the Khanti bear funeral ceremony. Taking a tour in the past has been interwoven with mythical ancient history, yet drawing parallels with today's society.
