Compendious treatment about Estonian contemporary history and the SInging Revolution. Despite the fact that the documentary focuses on the process of Estonia regaining its independence in 1987-1991, the film also looks back to occupation of Estonia and the decades that followed the event. Lots of archival film materials have been used. We can see people who participated in the events and influenced the course of these events - politicians, conductors of song festivals, dissidents and regular citizens. Estonian Song '88 was the event held in the Song Festival Grounds in Tallinn on September 11, 1988, where the largest number of people took part. During six hours 11. septembril 1988 toimus Tallinna laulväljakul seni kõigi aegade rahvarohkeim üritus Eestimaa laul ‘88, kus kuue tunni jooksul peeti sütitavaid kõnesid ja lauldi isamaalisi laule.

The chain of events called the Singing Revolution culminated with Estonian Song '88 that took place on September 11, 1988. Almost quarter of a million people participated in the event where people publicly demanded restoration of Estonian independence. The great event was organized by the Popular Front of Estonia, Estonian Abstinence Society, Estonian Radio and Kodamu where the statesmen and heads of various movements held speeches, actors read poetry, music groups and choirs performed patriotic songs, all this being accompanied by the audience's sympathy and affection.

Estonian Film Database (EFDB)

The database is maintained by NGO Estonian Film Database. It was opened on 12.12.2012 and is meant for providing information about the whole Estonian film heritage from 1912. We plan fully complete it by 2025 but already now full and partial entries for about 20 000 films, 27 000 filmmakers, and more than 200 production companies could be retrieved in Estonian and partly in English. Translation of film descriptions and keywords into English is ongoing but due to the scarcity of resources quite a slow process. Read more detailed overview.
