First documentary about the Estonian Students' Society that was established in Tartu in 1870 - it is the oldest, biggest and most influential academical student organization.

Estonian Students' Society have significantly contributed to the development of Estonian national self-awareness, to local cultural and educational life as well as to the improvement of Estonian nationhood. Documentary gives a short overview about the history of the Estonian Students' Society and the emigration era that followed the great escape from Estonia in 1944. The film focuses on the restoration of the society at the end of 1980s and its role in today's Estonia. Alumni and active members of the society talk about ESS; also, outside experts add their commentaries.
