Poetical documentary film of the longing for and the search of happiness between Estonia and Finland.

More than 70,000 Estonians live and work in Finland, at the same time as their families, parents, children and homes are in Estonia. The documentary film speaks about adjusting to new conditions, sticking to and loosing one’s roots, the yearning for and the search for happiness. The film is a humorously wistful documentation of families living in the snowy fields of Lapland, apartments in Vantaa, on the staircases of shopping malls, at construction sites, hotel lobbies, and of grandchildren in the living rooms of Estonian grandmothers who are waiting for their children to come home.

Jaak Kilmi and Kiur Aarma made the residents of Tallinn to perform the opposition between the manor owner Johann von Uexküll in Riisipere and the Hochedle Rath der Stadt Reval or the higher consilium governing the city of Tallinn back in 16th century.

Playful tale of fantasy about the city of Tallinn told by the stories of local people. The stories of the living and the dead, memories and urban legends, children and skeletons meet here. The almost one-thousand-year-old legend of Tallinn brings all these seemingly different tales together. Manor owner Johann von Üxküll was executed in Tallinn in 1535 for killing peasant Mattis. 12 present day residents of Tallinn reconstruct this old tale in front of cameras – the story about justice and equality.

An important moment in Estonian history has been recorded for future generations - the process of presidential elections of the Republic of Estonia in 2001 and electing Arnold Rüütel as the President of Estonia.

After three rounds of voting in Riigikogu and two rounds of voting in the electoral body, Arnold Rüütel, former chairman of the Supreme Council of ESSR was elected the President of the Republic of Estonia for the next five years during the presidential elections in 2001. The filmmakers follow the process of elections, they talk to the politicians and presidential candidates and discuss the problems that our small country is facing and will face.

Estonian Film Database (EFDB)

The database is maintained by NGO Estonian Film Database. It was opened on 12.12.2012 and is meant for providing information about the whole Estonian film heritage from 1912. We plan fully complete it by 2025 but already now full and partial entries for about 20 000 films, 27 000 filmmakers, and more than 200 production companies could be retrieved in Estonian and partly in English. Translation of film descriptions and keywords into English is ongoing but due to the scarcity of resources quite a slow process. Read more detailed overview.
