The drama directed by Tõnu Virve is based on the play "Lukas" by Icelandic writer Gudmundur Steinsson, telling the story about an elderly couple dedicated to serving their son.

The highlight of Elsbet's and Albert's day is their son's visit. Every day, the old couple serves festive dinner to Lucas in a cozy dining room decorated with lots of flowers. Lucas is content only when the best food and expensive drinks are served. He patronizingly accepts his parents' care and enjoys eating one delicacy after another until he will finally feel sick. The parents have to prove that the food is not poisoned; so they have to taste all the food that they usually won't share with their son.

The film directed by Peeter Simm is based on the novel "Trees Were, Trees Were Tender Brothers" by Mats Traat, telling the story of young Hind who unexpectedly becomes the head of a farm in the Governorate of Livonia in 19th century, during the times of corveé.

Typhus has killed the father, mother and older son of Palanumäe farm. Hind, younger son, realizes that he won't be able to manage the shabby farm alone. Paabu, the wife of older son, is good at housework and Hind likes her; however, more help than that is needed for maintaining the farm. Jaak, the farmhand, does more harm than good. The rumour is around that when converting to orthodoxy one will lead better life in a warm country - this, of course, attracts Hind, but angers the estate owners. How come this young inexperienced man wants something else than serving ...

Estonian Film Database (EFDB)

The database is maintained by NGO Estonian Film Database. It was opened on 12.12.2012 and is meant for providing information about the whole Estonian film heritage from 1912. We plan fully complete it by 2025 but already now full and partial entries for about 20 000 films, 27 000 filmmakers, and more than 200 production companies could be retrieved in Estonian and partly in English. Translation of film descriptions and keywords into English is ongoing but due to the scarcity of resources quite a slow process. Read more detailed overview.
