Forest university as a grouping of younger generation of expatriate Estonians in Sweden started its activities in 1976, with the aim of discussing the issues of culture and society in Estonia. Metroo seminars, held as summer camps lasting for several days, take place in Veskijärve, July 14-15, 1979 and in Gotland, July 14-21, 1980. ESTO 1980 takes place in Stockholm on July 8-17. The adventure film directed by Madis Ojamaa is based on a historical fact from the "Livonian Chronicles" by Balthasar Russow, telling about the execution of Baron Johann von Uexküll in Tallinn in 1535.

When Baron von Uexküll and his fellow pillagers lead another ship onto rocks with false lights, they will have no mercy on no one on the ship. One sailor, Andreas, is able to escape the ship and make it to Tallinn with the help of farm girl Jaana and Matis who once fleed from Uexküll's as a slave. Musical comedy directed by Arvo Kruusement is based on the play "In Sevilla or Don Juan" by Samuil Aljoschin. The classical story has been given a colourful interpretation through the pop music of 1960s and 1970s, fashion, and the architecture of the old town of Tallinn. The film includes lots of singing, dancing and fashion show. Its medieval milieu is mixed with the everyday items of the 20th century.

One day, an elegant young swordsman arrives at the good old Tallinn where its inhabitants extravagantly boast with fashionable outfit and pop culture of 1960s and 1970s. Soon the rumours spread among female citizens that the swordsman is the famous ladykiller Don Juan. The virtues of the local women are put to the test and the local young men have to take up arms in order to prove themselves. Yet, the Don Juan arriving at Tallinn is not the one whom people consider him to be.

Estonian Film Database (EFDB)

The database is maintained by NGO Estonian Film Database. It was opened on 12.12.2012 and is meant for providing information about the whole Estonian film heritage from 1912. We plan fully complete it by 2025 but already now full and partial entries for about 20 000 films, 27 000 filmmakers, and more than 200 production companies could be retrieved in Estonian and partly in English. Translation of film descriptions and keywords into English is ongoing but due to the scarcity of resources quite a slow process. Read more detailed overview.
