On the shores of the Gulf of Finland, the ancient Finno-Ugric peoples originated a singing tradition of mysterious power called the Regilaul. These songs are the roots of Estonia’s renowned singing culture. Based on the continuous repetition of eight-syllable verses, they produce a haunting sound able to connect the fleeting present with the eternal circle of life. Against the stunning setting of modern Estonia, this film explores how Regi songs still fire the imagination today, weaving together people and nature through song.

Short film directed by Andres Maimik about a man and a women trying to save their collapsing relationship in the primeval atmosphere of a smoke sauna.

The folklorist husband cannot put up with the fact that his TV reporter wife does not love him as much as before. Being tortured by passion and accusations, the husband takes his wife to sauna in order to cleanse the spirit as well as ignite the body chemistry. The primeval atmosphere of the sauna has quite the opposite effect on the woman and the situation goes out of control.

The romantic drama directed by Arvo Iho is based on the novel "The Heart of the Bear" by Nikolai Baturin and tells about a young hunter Niika who finds and loses himself and his love in a Siberian taiga.

The magic of Siberia brings hunter Niika back to the lands of Nordic people. Despite of the hospitality of the Nganasan people it turns out that Niika's destiny is not in his own hands but will be determined by the forces of nature. He can rediscover himself only when he is ready to experience passion and pain, desperation and unforgivable sin. He must meet his own shadow, to love a woman for whom no one else is left, and to kill his friend. The only way to escape his fate is to get the heart of the bear.

„The Shaman“ was filmed on July 16, 1977 in the northernmost coast of Eurasia, on the Taymyr Peninsula, at the Avam River, simultaneously with the shooting of the documentary „The Winds of the Milky Way“. The Nganasan shaman Demnime (1913 ̶1980) was 64 years old at the time. The documentary about Demnime's incantation ritual was completed 20 years later.

An ancient Khanty bear feast ritual, estimated to be about 3000 years old, was filmed in Western Siberia, in Khantia-Mansia, at the Agan River, a tributary of the Ob, in September 1985 and in August 1988. Participants in the ceremony held at a Khanty summer camp included singers of old songs who travelled to the ritual place from several hundred kilometres away.
