The Metsküla Elementary School is a classic example of the joys and problems of the current education system. Today, there are 22 students and 3 teachers here. And yet, the threat of closure looms over this school as well. If the school dies – the town will die with it.

It's the first schoolday of the 21st century in Metsküla Primary School in Matsalu, Lihula parish. There are 22 pupils in six different grades and 3 teachers in the school. The main principle of Johannes Käis (1885–1950) is that "instead of teaching children that they must know facts, they should learn how to search for knowledge and how to find it, and to grow them intellectually independent people". Käis's works were forbidden to the mid-1960s during the Soviet era and he was accused for propagating bourgeois-nationalist views. The documentary that has been commissioned by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Estonia gives an overview about Johannes Käis's life; his students and relatives share their memories and recollections; educational historians appreciate Käis's valuable life's work.
