During the Soviet occupation it housed a Red Army training centre and airport. The population then was 12000 people, now it is half the size and half are Russian-speaking people. The neglected Soviet training centre is a stone’s throw from the NATO base where in spring 2017 allied forces moved in.

Between Two Worlds

This short poetic documentary focuses on the talented Latvian singer Dainis Skutelis, who is literally spending his life between two worlds. He is a singer in the Latvian National Opera, however, he can't stand the city life and feels the most happy in his countryside, which is more than 200 kilometers away from Riga. Therefore almost most of his time Dainis spends on the road between these two cities and even lives.

Even though the initial idea of this film was to show the contrast between those two lifestyles Dainis is living, during the shooting process Dainis suddenly announced that he has quit his job in the Latvian National Opera and from now on he will focus on renewing his country house where his daughter could grow up.
