Paabu, the wife of older son, is good at housework and Hind likes her; however, more help than that is needed for maintaining the farm. Jaak, the farmhand, does more harm than good. The rumour is around that when converting to orthodoxy one will lead better life in a warm country - this, of course, attracts Hind, but angers the estate owners. How come this young inexperienced man wants something else than serving ...

The first full-length feature film directed by Peeter Simm is based on the story "The deputy of spring sowing" by Karl Helemäe, analyzing the choices of a young man during the era of the establishment of collective farms in Estonian countryside.

The beginning of 1950s. Mait Kukemeri from the Young Communist League is appointed to improve the process of spring sowing in a collective farm. The leader of the collective farm together with his fellow farmers won't rush to the field since the soil is too wet for sowing and there is not enough seed grain. But the authorities want the results. So the young deputy has to find a solution at any price. He will discover new things about life and himself during that crazy yet bright spring.

She is looking for somene to test the new bike at Tallinn-Riga bicycle race but no one among the bicycle racers will agree. Then she seems to find the right solution - her new acquaintances Robert and Leo are two successful sportsmen. There are two parallel plot lines in the film: next to the abovementioned story, there is another one, an animated parody depicting the adventures of Author and Director during the film shooting and at the arts council.
